The 14-man national billiards team is looking to extend its dominancein the prestigious 35th Annual US Open 9-Ball Championship scheduled from October 17 to 23 at the Chesapeake Conference Center in Virginia. No less than former world 9-Ball and 8-Ball champion Ronnie Alcano will be in the forefront when the strong Philippine contingent vies for honor and prize against some of the world’s best cue masters.

Alcano is fresh from winning the 2010 Sangsom Pattaya 9-Ball Invita-tional Pool Competition held at the Royal Garden Plaza in Pattaya with high hopes of bringing his lucky breaks in the longest running 9-Ball event in the world.

Alcano actually had a couple of runner-up finishes in the US Open. He lost in the finals against American Shane Van Boening in 2008 and Mika Immonen of Finland in the 2009 edition.

“I’m looking forward to a better finish this time. I’m going one game at a time and hopefully nail it this time around,” said Alcano.

Joining Alcano in the team are legendary cue master Efren “Bata” Reyes and reigning World Pool 9-Ball champion Francisco “Django” Bustamante along with veteran campaigners Dennis Orcullo, Roberto Gomez, Ramil Gallego and Lee Van Corteza

Also seeing action are Jose Parica, Santos Sambajon, Antonio Lining, Ramon Mistica, Warren Kiamco, Jun Almoite and Al Lapena.

The US Open is limited to 256 qualified players with the champion getting a whopping $40,000.
