January Events

A full listing of the major January festivals and celebrations in the Philippines from the Philippine Department of Tourism.  The early January festivals continue the Christmas holidays culminating on 6th January -- the official Three King's Day.  However, many of the  January festivities  associated with the Baby Jesus ("Santo Nino") continue all the way up to the end of the month.

Some of these celebrations have become world renowned, including the "Ati-atihans" especially the celebrations in Kalibo, Aklan. During the past decade, perhaps because of its sheer location in Cebu City, the major gateway city in both Visayas and Mindanao, the Sinulog festival (Cebu City) has dwarfed all the other Santo Nino festivities.

In Metro Manila, the "Feast of the Black Nazarene" (Quiapo Church, Manila) attracts religious devotees from the metro region.  The procession of the "Black Nazarene" around the community creates gridlock in the heart of city.
